I’ve been making tofu burgers quite a bit lately as even my meat loving son loves them. This is the second recipe we have for them on the website, but this one has a couple less steps so a faster prep time (you can find the original recipe here: tofu burgers).

Makes: about 8
Prep: 15mins Cook: 15mins

Ingredients

  • 4 spring onions or ½ regular onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 450g firm tofu
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1½ cups bread crumbs* (or use 2 cups if you prefer a very firm texture)
  • 2 tablespoons, kecap manis
  • 1 tablespoon sweet chilli sauce
  • Extra virgin olive oil for frying

 Directions

  1. Dice spring onion and crush garlic
  2. Place onion and garlic in a food processor with tofu
  3. Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds
  4. Add egg, parsley, breadcrumbs and sauces
  5. Blend for 30 seconds
  6. Shape into about 8 patties (add more breadcrumbs if needed, it is a soft mixture)
  7. Refrigerate for 30 minutes
  8. Heat oil in the pan on medium, enough to cover pan
  9. Place patties in pan and cook till golden, about 5-6 minutes each side
  10. Serve tofu burgers with salad or a veggie side

Notes

You can make homemade breadcrumbs by toasting bread. Place toasted bread in food processor and blitz until fine bread crumbs. 1 slice of toast makes about 1/2 cup breadcrumbs.
